Summer's Ending: 4 Tips to Get Back to Your Routine

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the beach is calling your name, no wonder it’s hard to get into the gym when summer is here.

With only a few weeks left of this lovely weather, it’s that time to start thinking about how to get back into the swing of things and maintain your fitness goals and healthy habits.

Below are some tips for how to get yourself back on track now that autumn is just around the corner.

1. Start the day with fitness:

One of the best ways to ensure you get back on track with your fitness goals is to wake up and shape up! The morning is one of the best times of the day to work out (if your schedule permits) as you are more likely to have the energy, and in turn will start your day feeling great and ready to take on the rest of it. It will also help  you to focus more and free your time to enjoy your evening.

2. Aim for a shorter workout:

Since you are getting back into your workout routine after taking most of the summer off, don’t expect your body to be ready to give it  your all straight away. Take 30 minutes out of your morning to focus on yourself and your goals - a short workout is better than no workout. But don’t push yourself; allow your body to regroup after taking this time off.

3. Break up your routine:

You don't have to think of your workout as a 60 minute chunk out of your day.  After taking time off from working out, it is always hard to get back into things and this is OK!  If you can’t make it into your CityFitness club one day, don’t sweat it. Start with a morning workout in your living room; take a walk at lunch, climb the stairs at work, whichever you are comfortable with - your body will let you know what it is ready for.

4. Reward yourself:

You have already committed yourself to having a healthy active lifestyle by joining CityFitness, congratulations! Always remember to reward yourself and give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. The first couple of weeks are always the hardest when you are trying to get back into a routine, YOU CAN DO IT! Take things in strides, always give yourself positive reinforcement, and remember how you felt prior to taking your summer break - look forward to feeling like that again!
